| While
medicine treats the individual, public health assesses the health
of people in relation to their environment. For every medical
breakthrough, public health expertise translates that breakthrough
into practical action by delivering effective treatments, developing
sound health policies and practices, and preventing disease and
injury.
U.S. News & World
Report consistently ranks the UCLA School
of Public Health in the top 10 schools of
public health. The School prepares more underrepresented minority
students for health careers than any other school of public health
in the continental United States. School faculty includes three
presidents of the American Public Health Association (APHA), three
recipients of the APHA’s Sedgwick Medal, two presidents
of the International Epidemiological Association, and seven faculty
elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of
Sciences.
Support from alumni and friends
helps the School of Public Health to recruit and retain the
best and brightest faculty and students, and provides seed
funds for innovative research and programs – helping
to meet today's public health needs and prepare for tomorrow's
challenges.
